St. Augustine Senior Pictures | Mollie Jane Photography: Three Must-Have Outfits

I LOVE ST. AUGUSTINE SENIOR PICTURES!!!

AND NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!!!! This is such an exciting season for you! But I know that it can be so stressful too.

Wondering what to wear for senior pictures? I recommend bringing three outfits that give us completely different looks while still feeling like you. For my St. Augustine senior sessions, I love a short dress, a long dress, and a personality outfit that shows off who you are right now.

If you’re a high school senior in St. Augustine looking to stand out, here are the THREE must-have outfits for your senior session (and where to buy them!) to showcase your unique style and personality!

I’m going to give you three outfits, kinda, it’s more like a guideline because you can take these 3 outfits and make them all your own. Dig in to this blog post and you will walk away ready to go shopping!!!

Every senior session needs a little fun, and a short dress is the perfect way to bring it in.

Whether it is a flirty mini, a flowy sundress, or something with a little more structure, this outfit gives your gallery a completely different look from a long dress while still feeling polished and beautiful.

A shorter dress is also perfect for creating movement in your photos. Walking, twirling, sitting on a wall, or letting the breeze catch the skirt can create those effortless images that feel natural and full of personality.

The goal is not to put your senior in something she would never actually wear. Instead, look for something that feels like an elevated version of her personal style.

If she loves a classic look: Look for a timeless silhouette and a beautiful color that will still feel gorgeous years from now.

If she loves a romantic look: Look for soft fabrics, feminine details, and a little movement in the skirt.

If she loves a trendy look: Try a fun mini dress, playful details, interesting texture, or a current silhouette that feels stylish and totally her.

Moms, let her have a little say in this one. She will be much more confident in front of the camera when she genuinely loves what she is wearing.

And seniors, if you put it on and immediately think, “This is so me,” you probably found the right one!

Soft, neutral colors and pretty pastels photograph beautifully and create that light, timeless look we love.

Look for:

• Soft pastels like blush, blue, lavender, butter yellow, or sage
• Creams, whites, and other neutral tones
• Pretty floral patterns that feel feminine without being too busy
• Soft textures like linen, lace, eyelet, or subtle pleating
• A skirt that moves beautifully when she walks or twirls

Solid colors are always a beautiful choice, especially if you want a classic, timeless look. A soft floral is another great option if you want to add a little more personality while keeping everything light and feminine.

The goal is not to find the loudest dress in the store. Think soft, pretty, and timeless. These are the dresses you will still love looking at years from now.

Especially with a shorter dress, shoes make a huge difference and can completely change the feel of the outfit.

Consider:

• Sandals for a relaxed, beachy look
• Heels for something a little more polished
• Boots for a fun, trendy feel
• Her favorite sneakers for a more casual personality

Most importantly, choose something she feels amazing in.

The best outfit is always the one that makes her feel like the best version of herself.

Now for the showstopper!

A long dress adds a little more drama and romance to your senior gallery. It creates beautiful movement, photographs beautifully in the breeze, and gives us those images that make you stop and say, “Wow!”

If your senior has always dreamed of wearing a gorgeous dress for her senior pictures, this is the one to have fun with.

This is the perfect opportunity to embrace those feminine details she loves.

Look for:

• Soft pastels like blush, blue, lavender, butter yellow, or sage
• Cream, white, and other neutral tones
• Beautiful floral patterns
• Flowy fabrics that move in the breeze
• Romantic details like lace, eyelet, pleats, or delicate texture
• A dress that feels special without feeling overly formal

A solid pastel dress can give you a classic, timeless look, while a soft floral adds a little more personality.

Moms, this is often the dress you will absolutely want printed and hanging on the wall.

Seniors, choose something that makes you feel beautiful. If you put it on and immediately want to twirl, we are probably onto something!

If we are photographing your senior session at the beach, the long dress is my favorite outfit for the beach portion of your session.

The combination of a flowing dress, ocean breeze, and soft coastal light creates gorgeous movement in your images.

A long skirt catches the wind beautifully, and we can use that movement to create images that feel romantic and effortless rather than posed.

Think:

• Walking along the shoreline
• Letting the breeze move the skirt
• Twirling in the sand
• Barefoot photos near the water
• Those beautiful wide images with the ocean behind you

A shorter dress can still be beautiful at the beach, but a long, flowy dress really allows us to take advantage of everything the beach gives us.

You do not need a lot of accessories with a beautiful long dress.

Honestly, not even shoes, sometimes, especially when we are on the beach.

Sometimes the prettiest combination is simply:

A gorgeous dress + beautiful light + a little breeze.

Keep jewelry simple and let the dress do the talking. Then we can create images that feel feminine, natural, and timeless.

Now let’s have a little fun!

Your first two outfits give us those pretty, feminine, dressed up images. Your third outfit is where we get to show a little more of who she is right now.

Think of this as the outfit that feels the most like her.

This does not have to be complicated. Start with something she already loves to wear and build from there.

Think:

• Her favorite jeans with a pretty top
• A cute skirt with a sweater or fitted top
• A favorite pair of sneakers
• Boots with jeans and a feminine blouse
• A cardigan or jacket she loves
• An outfit that shows off a favorite hobby or activity

The goal is not to create a completely different style. It is to capture another side of her personality.

This is also a great place to include something that has meaning to her.

Maybe it is her favorite pair of shoes, a special piece of jewelry, her letterman jacket, her senior jeans, or something that represents a hobby she has loved for years.

These little details can become some of the most meaningful images in the gallery.

Even though this outfit is more casual, we still want it to feel like a senior portrait, not just an everyday snapshot.

Look for:

• Well fitting pieces
• Soft, neutral or pastel colors that coordinate with her other outfits
• Feminine details like a pretty sweater, cardigan, or delicate jewelry
• Clean, classic pieces that will not feel dated in a few years
• Shoes and accessories that complete the look

And remember, casual does not have to mean boring!

A beautiful pair of jeans, a feminine top, and her favorite shoes can create some of the most natural and genuine images from her entire session.

This is the outfit that should make her mom say, “Yep, that is SO her.”

A short section tying everything together.

Think:

Dressy → Glamorous → Personality

Rather than bringing three outfits that all look the same, choose three that give us variety.

You could mention:

  • Different lengths
  • Different textures
  • Different levels of dressiness
  • Different shoes/accessories
  • Coordinating colors without making everything match

And maybe a simple rule:

If the three outfits could be worn to the same event, you probably need more variety.
