This part of her session felt a little more laid-back and natural, which helped her ease into everything and truly enjoy the experience. It also gave her something that no one else will have because it is private.  But all of her friends will say “WHERE WAS THAT?!”

From there, we explored a nearby bridge and a few hidden areas that added even more variety to her gallery. These spots brought in that elevated Florida feel she was drawn to while still keeping everything cohesive. It is those in-between locations and personal touches that really take a senior session from just pretty to unforgettable.

One of my favorite spots to photograph is right by the fountain in front of the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. There is something about the way the light filters through the water that creates the prettiest glow, especially when it hits just right during golden hour. Add in the palm trees surrounding the space, and it instantly gives that elevated tropical feel without trying too hard.

For Ava’s session, this location gave us those fun, carefree images that felt completely natural. The movement of the fountain, the soft light, and the greenery all worked together. It is one of those spots that always photographs beautifully, and it never goes out of style.

 Coastal Scenery That Feels Timeless

Right in front of the club, the beach itself is just as stunning. The sand is clean, the dunes are soft and natural, and it is noticeably less crowded than a lot of the nearby Jacksonville beaches. That makes such a difference, especially for seniors who might feel a little nervous at the start of their session.

Ava had access to the club areas, which made everything really seamless for us, but even the public access just a little further down the street is just as beautiful. That is one of the things I always tell my seniors and their moms, you do not need anything overcomplicated to get incredible photos here. Ava knew what she wanted for her senior session.  As always, I give my clients options for their desired “look”.  Ava knew she wanted the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club and, definitely, the beach.

Part of my job is to know the rules of all the locations, parking, costs, limitations, etc.  I expressed concern that the Inn was a little more strict about using their property for a senior session.  But because they have a family friend that is a member and lives very close to the club, they offered to come with us.

And!  They offered to let us use their backyard, which is really a tropical Florida oasis for part of the session.  Ummm, yes, please!

Outfit Choices That Photographed Beautifully

One of my favorite things about Ava’s session was how perfectly her outfits fit both her and the location. I always tell my seniors that you really can’t go wrong with neutrals, and she leaned into that in such a beautiful way. Every look felt clean, timeless, and elevated without ever feeling overdone. 

She started with a soft neutral dress that photographed so effortlessly against the greenery and coastal architecture. It had that classic, polished feel while still being simple enough to keep the focus on her. This is exactly why I love lighter tones for the beginning of a session. They reflect light beautifully and give you that fresh, glowing look.

For her second outfit, she switched into a more casual look with a neutral top and denim shorts. This added a relaxed, fun layer to her gallery and felt very true to her personality. It is always a good idea to mix in something a little more laid back so your photos do not all feel the same.

And then there was her black dress on the beach, which I absolutely loved. Black is not always the first color people think of for beach photos, but it is still a neutral, and it created the most beautiful contrast against the soft sand and warm light. It felt a little more bold and elevated while still fitting perfectly with the overall look of her session.

Together, her outfits gave her so much variety without losing that cohesive, timeless feel. That is always the goal.

Personality and Candid Moments

I have teenagers now, I have a little bit of insight into their minds.  I have watched them go from playing with Barbies to playing Spotify in their airpods 24/7.  And what I have noticed that comes with that?  

They have grown up in the era of pictures all the time, whenever they want.  They take a picture of what they are doing or a quick crooked selfie and put it on Instagram Stories or SnapChat and it’s gone in 24 hours.  Immediacy is KING.They post everything in Stories and nothing on their feed.

What is in their feed, though? Moments.  Homecoming, prom, a trip to the beach and grad pictures (Senior Sunday).  They know how to pose, kinda.  They know how to pose for Instagram. But, in order to draw out real personality, it is more about movement, more real life with just a little guidance.  The best photos don’t force it out, it is brought out.

My Favorite Moments from Ava’s Senior Session in Ponte Vedra

Ava was a natural in front of the camera!  But I could definitely see that she came alive at the beach.  The beach has her heart.  But, of course, she’s a Florida girl!  This was definitely my favorite part of the session!

Until…

We were finished with the session, and then I looked over and there was the most GLORIOUS light!  Friends, you know that light is EVERYTHING!  And I saw it!  Even though we were done and just walking back to our cars from the beach, I told Ava that we HAD to get this last picture!
