This Los Angeles Temple Wedding was so special! Really, but aren’t they all?
How gorgeous is this couple? And how lucky was I that I got to spend my 40th birthday with this sweet couple? Their sealing was later in the day on December 27th. The light was so gorgeous. I don’t very often get to shoot at any temple later in the day and it was so nice! I love the pictures that we were able to get at the front of the temple!
The next day was their wedding reception. Carlos, my husband and associate shooter, was able to go up to Santa Barbara to photograph their pictures at the Santa Barbara Courthouse and reception. Such a fun couple of days!
I have photographed HUNDREDS of LDS temple weddings! Many of them at the Los Angeles Temple. But this piece of advice is for ANY temple wedding.
LDS BRIDES! Listen up! This advice is for couples who photography is important to them. That are willing to listen to a photographer’s advice to get the BEST pictures of their LDS temple wedding.
Every temple has a best time for photography lighting. Every temple is different. You need to find a photographer, if they haven’t shot at that temple, who can look at a map and know where the sun is at any given time of the day.
This is one this to know: The lighting is NEVER ideal at noon.
You will be in the temple for about an hour. If you schedule your sealing for 11am (which is a very popular time), you are going to come out of the temple around noon. It might be a little later, not usually before that.
The sun will be directly overhead, that is never ideal. I would definitely schedule your sealing for either before that time period (8am or 9am) or after. It’s usually best to schedule it for 1pm, 2pm, or 3pm. This also depends on the time of year.
The sun, in the morning, shines on the back of the temple. The sun, in the evening, shines on the front of the temple. So you will either get the sun on your face when you come out of the temple or for your pictures on the front of the temple.
I have shot during both times, many times. At the Los Angeles temple, I prefer a morning sealing, about 9am sealing, coming out of the temple at 10am. Or a very late sealing, like this session, planning it about 3 hours before the sunset (like this wedding). They had their reception on different day.
No. It’s beautiful no matter what time. I have photographed many weddings at every LDS temple in Southern California and the Los Angeles temple is, by far, the easiest temple for gorgeous lighting at any time of day.
Really, every temple is beautiful, at any time of day because…it’s the temple!
