I have been shooting weddings for over 15 years now. I have photographed literally hundreds of engagement sessions. I have photographed simple, casual sessions and glamorous, entailed ones and everything in between. In this last year, I have noticed a trend in engagement photography that not very many couples are doing and I love it so so much!
Have you ever thought of bringing a bouquet to your engagement session?! You should! This definitely lends itself to the more romantic and whimsical style, a little more formal than some couples prefer. But in so many styles this idea is a win! That is why I decided to put together this styled shoot. I wanted to model how beautiful this look can be.
If you decide that you love the idea of having flowers in your session, how do you decide on the components of your session?
- Decide on your color scheme. Whenever couples ask me what they should wear, I always recommend using a pallet similar to their wedding colors. Those are usually colors that they love and that way, you can use them at your reception.
- Contact your florist, or a florist that you are considering working with, or one that you love. Talk to them about your color pallet and what you are thinking of for your bouquet. If possible, maybe use the same or similar flowers as you are using for your wedding, that would depend on the season and what is available. You can also talk about how big or small you would like your bouquet. There are so many options! For our shoot, we, of course, used Flour and Flower Designs out of Laguna Beach. I love working with these ladies! And if you are still in search of a florist for your wedding, definitely contact them!
To me, everything is better with flowers! Am I right?
A piece of advice that I always give my brides is to get your hair and makeup done before your session. Victoria got her hair and makeup done at Beautiful Day Bridal, such an amazing bridal team! 
Another, element that I added to this session, that I have never seen before, but I really think that we should see more, is to add details to your engagement session. Bring your Save the Date! Paper Scissors Print made this gorgeous Save the Date for our session. Bring a beautiful ring box to display your engagement ring, your jewelry, your shoes. Anything! I love the details! I have photographed many signs with their date on it, that is so cute, but how special to go even deeper, take the creativity to another level.
