Houston Family Photographer: 5 Suggestions to Mix Patterns for your family picture outfits

Family session in Conroe, Texas

#1 Balance Bold and Subtle Patterns in The Woodlands Family Pictures

The first suggestion as your Family Photographer in Houston is to balance the bold and subtle patterns. You will choose one person to wear a bold and larger pattern, a more noticeable pattern. And then you will mix it with a smaller, more subtle pattern. This will keep your family pictures in Houston from being too busy, but it will also keep it interesting with patterns.

#2 Stick to a Cohesive Color Palette with your family picture outfits

Even if everyone is wearing a different pattern (which I don’t really suggest), as long as they are all within a cohesive color palette, your family picture outfits are all tied together, visually. Find 2-3 colors that are complementary and make sure these colors are in the patterns that you choose, the pattern mixing will work for your Houston Family Pictures.

#3 Mix Different Types of Patterns for Houston Fall Family Pictures

Instead of using a bunch of different stripes, mix that up! You can use stripes and plaid, like this cute family did! Or a floral or polka dot, a checkered or animal print, there are a million options. As long as they share similar colors, these different patterns will look visually coordinated.

#4 Incorporate Neutrals into your family picture outfits

Like I mentioned before, I would not suggest having everyone in your family wear a different plaid for your Houston family photo session. I would suggest breaking it up with a neutral element. A solid color or even a solid accessory, like a sweater or a scarf. If you have read my Client Experience Guide, let me tell you about my love of neutral colors for your family picture outfits. Incorporating these neutral items will give your family pictures a calm base to contrast the patterns without overpowering them.

#5 Use Accessories to Add Pattern in your family picture outfits

If you’re hesitant to go all-out with patterned clothing, incorporate patterns through accessories like scarves, ties, hairbands, or socks. This way, you can introduce some fun patterns without overwhelming the overall look, and it’s easier to mix and match with solid-colored outfits.
